Meet Anusha, Virtual Therapist in Texas

Hi there, I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m Anusha Atmakuri (she/her), a wife, bookworm, an introverted extrovert, a recovering people pleaser and cycle breaker.

My Story

While I am now a mental health advocate and a recovering people pleaser, I wasn’t always like this. I’ve struggled to meet the expectations of my parents, friends, and romantic partners. I’ve often swallowed my wants and needs to “keep the peace” so no one was upset or disappointed. And if I made the “selfish” choice, I’d be anxious and guilty.

When I felt so stuck and hopeless I finally decided I needed therapy, and I received a compassionate witness to my pain. I learned to be authentic, regulate my emotions, and assertively advocate for my wants and needs while continuing to be a good daughter, good friend, and good wife.

My story is not a unique one.
It’s a common struggle many of us face. After struggling to find my authentic balance, I decided I want to be a guide and advocate for people like me who are tired of being stuck and are ready to shed what hasn’t been working for them and embrace the journey towards self-healing.

My Mission

I know it can be hard to balance being true to yourself while maintaining strong relationships. My mission is to educate and empower people who feel stuck, heal their root issues, and provide the necessary tools to break free and create a balanced and authentic life sustainably.

Education and Approach

I graduated Cum Laude with a M.Ed in Counseling from University of Houston. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas (#82780) which allows me to serve clients all over Texas via online therapy. My training as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and an Internal Family Systems Therapist coupled with my Culturally Affirming and Trauma Informed approach allows me to offer my clients a holistically healing and sustainable transformation through our collaborative work. No Band-Aid solutions here!

Community Empowerment

As a 1.5 generation South Asian Therapist, I’m very passionate about educating, empowering, and normalizing mental health in the South Asian community. I give back and empower my community through my active engagement on Instagram called Chai with Anusha and a podcast called Talk South Asian To Me, both of which focus on normalizing mental health and providing educational content.

Personal Time

When I’m not educating and empowering my clients, and my instagram and podcast audiences, you can find me getting cozy at home reading a book, watching K dramas, dancing with my husband, or playing board games or pickleball with friends and family.
